I’ve had so much fun creating this card, it has so many different elements and inspiration from several different people. First up, I chose the digi image Zombie Mae from Some Odd Girl. I saw the colouring that Christina V did and loved the colours she chose, so I coloured my Mae the same. I added some red to her hair and head, as she’s been a little messy sourcing fresh brains and has blood on her. Then I saw the amazing card that Sharon SB made and just knew that I had to give it a try! So for my card, since Mae is zombified, I had to have raining blood from some pretty dark looking thunderclouds. I used some “invisible” thread (it’s a very fine nylon thread), and red seed beads to create the falling blood rain.
It’s taken a couple of days to perfect this card, there are quite a few layers, and I wanted the thread perfectly measured and taught for the beads to slide along. The background is black card and I’ve coloured it up with pencils to look like a sunset. Then I freehand drew some zombies on their walk through the old graveyard. The edges of all the raised pieces are edged in white pencil to help them stand out.
I also added some bats who are fleeing as the storm looms. Mae has gloss on her eyes and of course the brain in her hand.
Here’s another angle on the card. I’m so happy with how the background zombies turned out. I used a black ink joy pen and it faded beautifully to look like a silhouette against the setting sun.
I tried a little trick with the foam tape that I used for raising the pieces on – I coloured the edges of each piece with black Sharpie. It helps it to “disappear” behind the black card instead of standing out as bright white.
